Petkum, Ostfriesland Germany

Oltman and Aielt, sons of Uke and Bena (Buker) Lupkes, sailed from Brem, and arrived in New York May 5, 1881. Oltman was listed as a Carpenter and Aielt as a Painter. They settled in Ackley, Iowa. After completing his German Military Service their brother George and his family joined them in Ackley in 1883. They would all become farmers now. Aielt eventually settled in Rushmore. Oltman moved on to Rushmore and finally settled in Traverse County, Minnesota. George stayed on in Ackley. His farm is now listed as a Century Farm having been in the Lupkes family for 100 or more years. The barn built by these brothers in Ackley still stands and is a tribute to their workmanship. Lupkes descendants of these brothers can be found in many states.
